Still from the Cotton campaign ad “Five for One”: a split screen of a man speaking into a microphone beside Hallie Shoffner, over a torn newspaper headline reading “Shoffner statement on trading ‘five Americans for one’ undocumented immigrant, creates firestorm,” credited to South Arkansas Now.

Today, Senator Cotton’s campaign released a new advertisement titled Five for One featuring Democrat Hallie Shoffner’s now viral comments about how she “would trade five Americans for just one of them,” referring to illegal aliens.

The ad will be shown across Arkansas on cable and broadcast TV, and all digital platforms, beginning Saturday, September 26th.

“Hallie Shoffner’s belief that one illegal alien is worth more than five Americans is so shocking you have to see it to believe it,” said James Arnold, Cotton campaign spokesman. “Even worse, her campaign has now confirmed that Mrs. Shoffner didn’t misspeak–she truly meant what she said. We believe every Arkansan needs to see the video for themself before heading to the polls this November. Arkansans deserve a Senator who will look out for their interests, not illegal aliens.”

The comments come from the Free Arkansas podcast on September 9th, where U.S. Senate candidate Hallie Shoffner said:

“Every farmer will tell you at one point, we did, or still do, employ undocumented immigrants, and it’s absolutely ridiculous that these folks are being rounded up because they’re hardworking people. They’re some of the best people we know, and honestly, we’d trade five Americans for just one of them because of how hard they work.”

“And why is it that there’s no pathway for them to work here legally when they’re good workers? We pay them well,” Shoffner said.

Given a chance to clarify her remarks, Hallie Shoffner’s campaign stood by them, saying in part, “Hallie Shoffner has been clear about what she believes, and said so in the podcast being referenced.”
